Here are the essential steps you can take to get yourself out of a cyberbullying situation:
🛑 Immediate Reflexes: Not Responding and Retaining Evidence This is the crucial first step.
Never Respond: Your natural first reaction will be to defend yourself or respond, but this often only exacerbates the situation and encourages the stalker. Silence is your best immediate protection.
Keep All Evidence: Cyberbullying is a crime. In order to act, you need strong evidence: Take screenshots of all posts, posts, photos or comments. Make sure that the captures include date, time and author's identity (or nickname). If you have the means, a bailiff's report is the most compelling piece of evidence because it legally attests to facts.
🔒 Secure Your Accounts and Environment Block Harassers: Immediately block the accounts of people who harass you on all platforms (social networks, emails, messengers).
Lock Your Accounts: Quickly change your privacy settings to make your accounts private and make your posts invisible to strangers. Change Your Passwords: Use strong, unique passwords in case your accounts have been compromised. Report Content: Use the platform's built-in reporting tools (Facebook, Instagram, X/Twitter, Snapchat, etc.) to request that abusive content be removed.
🗣️ Talk and Ask for Help Definitely don't stay isolated. Harassment thrives in secrecy. Talk to a trusted relative: Family, friends or anyone who can provide emotional support.
